Berta Breakfast for Kindergarten & Special Needs Children

By: Eve PohlPosted On: April 26th, 2021

Exciting Announcement!  Next week HFK will begin feeding a highly nutritious breakfast of Berta pancakes, daily protein, fruits and vegetables to 100 kindergartners and 20 special needs students at Abune Basilios School.

Located next to the trash dump, this school has had great concerns for their students, especially for those who receive very little to eat at home and what they do eat often has little nutritional value.  Many children come to school with empty stomachs and they are unable to concentrate or make it through the day. The school staff are worried about the developmental impact this has on their brains and bodies.

The school has asked HFK to partner with them in providing a strong nutritional breakfast and they have chosen their youngest and neediest children for this program. Abune Basilios has given HFK a feeding center and kitchen to operate out of and last week our staff and visiting YWAM team began working to repair, paint and fix them up. Below are some action shots taken at the feeding center and of the kitchen we are renovating.

The before photos of the kitchen look pretty sad, but beautiful things can come out of the ashes!  This kitchen will be life-changing for many and we can't wait to see the transformation in just a few days.

There are many more details to complete before we start serving, so stay tuned for more developments in the days ahead….
