Meseret G.'s Family

Meseret worked hard to build a better life, but since her son’s birth, her family has struggled to make ends meet.

Meseret completed Grade 10 while working part-time at small shops to support herself. After moving to the city, she worked washing clothes and carrying construction materials to earn a living. She met her husband while working at a construction site and continued striving for a better future. 

Since the birth of her son, Meseret has stayed home to care for him, leaving her husband as the family’s sole provider. With his construction work often unstable, the family struggles to cover their basic needs. They are two months behind on rent, and there have been times when they have gone an entire day and night without food. Meseret hopes to access daycare and employment opportunities so she can return to work and help support her family. 

Monthly sponsorship will provide Meseret’s family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our youth, daycare, education, and community programs.
