Elias is friendly young boy who is full of energy and loves soccer!
He is one of three siblings and his mother Ayalech, used to survive through begging and scavenging at the city trash dump. However through HFK’s Family Empowerment program Ayalech is now learning new skills and is hoping to one day soon, start a small sewing business.
Recently, Elias received some exciting news regarding his education - he has been selected to attend private school! In the past, he has attended a local government school, but he was chosen for this opportunity because of his academic performance and participation in our youth and education programs. Students are selected to receive this scholarship by our Ethiopian staff based on criteria such as GPA, regular attendance at our tutoring, library, and youth programs. Elias has a 84% average and shows much potential!
We believe private school will be an important and positive change in Elias’ life and we are excited for this next step in his education journey. Elias is in Grade 3 at Kore Berhane Wengel (KBW) school and will have the opportunity to be taught in smaller classrooms, with greater support from teachers and receive Christian teaching. This Educational Sponsorship will cover tuition, uniform, textbooks, and school supplies. In turn, this will help Elias break the cycle of poverty by empowering his mind and offering hope for a better future.
