Thank you! We are pleased to share that Emaweye's family is fully sponsored!
Emaweye is blind and she moved to Korah 23 years ago, hoping to find medical treatment for her eyes. Because Emaweye was living alone and unable to survive by herself, her brother sent his 8-year-old son Melaku to live with her. He is now 16 years old and has been caring for her all this time. Melaku is a loving nephew and a hard-working, bright young man. He is a Grade 8 student and is at the top of his class. This family came to HFK's attention through Melaku's participation in our Berta Breakfast program, and the realization that on some days, this was the only meal he was eating. Due to their dire situation at home, Melaku and his aunt Emaweye are now a part of the HFK's Family Sponsorship program.
Through sponsorship this family will be able to receive holistic support such as such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care and counselling, education, income generation, health and life skills training. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give Emeweye and Melaku an opportunity to participate in many of our community and youth programs.
