Etenesh's Family

Etenesh lived in a home right beside the trash dump; the roof was made of old tin, and the walls were composed of sticks, and pieces of plastic and cardboard.

Prior to sponsorship she was afraid that she would not be able to afford her small, dilapidated home, as her landlord threatened to increase her rent payments. The air quality was poor and the toxic fumes from the decomposing trash was thick in the air.

Etenesh's husband left after the birth of their third child. Etenesh is very sick, and used to beg to make money to feed her family. On days where she felt better, she would wash clothes or make injera to sell. Etenesh was concerned that her youngest son might drop out of school. as he used to go to the trash dump with his friends to scavenge for pieces of plastic and metal to sell for money.

Monthly sponsorship provides Etenesh's family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our community and youth programs.
