Hana's Family

Hana and her husband struggle to make ends meet and are facing significant difficulties raising their two children.

Hana grew up in Addis Ababa with her mother, stepfather, brother, and sister, and received a good education. Sadly, her mother passed away when she was 18. As a young woman, Hana became a certified waitress and hairdresser, and worked as a sewing assistant, making leather products. She fell in love with a man she met one day at an exhibition, and after five years they started their family. His grandparents gave them a small house to live in, and all was going well for a time. As a mechanic, he made sufficient money to support the family, and when she could, Hana would work as well. However, after losing his job due to a disagreement with his employer, her husband began abusing substances and has become abusive towards the family. Now Hana is solely responsible to protect and provide for the children. Her biggest challenge is that she cannot afford to buy milk and diapers for her baby girl.

Monthly sponsorship will provide Hana’s family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our daycare, education, and community programs.
