Negesu's Family

Negesu and her husband Mekonnen lived near the Korah trash dump with their two sons Tizatu & Bereket.

Due to the fumes from the trash dump, the entire family was at risk of developing respiratory tract infections. Prior to sponsorship, their family ate one, maybe two, meals each day with the help of HFK’s Berta Breakfast program. At the time they were paying very high rent for a small mud house that was in great disrepair. It was a struggle to provide for their family, as Negesu’s husband injured his leg in a construction accident and is unable to work. Negesu washes clothes on occasion for a meager income; however, her asthma & chronic back pain make it a struggle.

Monthly sponsorship provides Negesu's family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care and counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our community and youth programs.
