Tizita's Family

Tizita and her three sons are barely surviving, depending on leftovers from kind neighbors for food.

After her mother died when she was a child, Tizita grew up in Addis Ababa with her father and stepmother. There were many fights in the home which eventually led Tizita to leave and go to a rural village to live with her aunt, where she studied up until grade 9. Desiring to find a good job, Tizita came back to the city to attend a vocational school for food preparation. During this time, she tried to return to her family, however they could not find common ground and so Tizita started living with her boyfriend. Together they moved to Korah and had their first son. Soon Tizita’s health started to decline, and sadly her second child died at only one month old. Later, when Tizita gave birth to twins, she was very sick and hospitalized for some time. Shortly after, the house they were living in near ‘Koshe’ (garbage dump) was demolished. Additionally, Tizita’s husband stopped supporting the family financially, leaving her alone to provide for their three children.

The past four months have been extremely challenging for Tizita. Caring for her twins has kept her from being able to go out and work, and without a regular income this family is truly in a desperate situation. Although Tizita feels lonely and worried about her children, she is energetic and motivated to engage in the empowerment process.

Monthly sponsorship will provide Tizita’s family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our youth, education, and community programs.
