Yodit is a destitute, single mother living in small house in Korah with her two young children.
By the time she was just 16 years old, Yodit became an orphan, which led to her dropping out of school. She began to look for new means of attaining love and acceptance, resulting in some choices that she deeply regrets. After living with her sister for a few years, she went to stay with another relative in Addis. During this time Yodit first worked as a waitress, but the income was still not sufficient. She married her husband, and together they moved to Korah and began their family. To her surprise, she later discovered that her husband had another marriage and other children. Two years ago, he left Yodit and the boys, and has not supported them since. Yodit does her best to provide for her children but has an irregular income. She often feels lonely and misses her parents and childhood when life was much simpler. Yodit is eager to engage in a small business and looks forward to the skills she can gain in the program.
Monthly sponsorship will provide Yodit’s family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our daycare, education, and community programs.
