After losing their home, Zemenay and her family moved to Korah, where they now live in fear of eviction.
At just 13 years old, Zemenay escaped an arranged marriage and moved to Addis Ababa in search of a better life. She spent many years working as a domestic helper, but despite her deep desire to continue her education, her employers never allowed her to attend school.
After years of saving, Zemenay proudly purchased a small piece of land on the outskirts of the city, where she and her husband built a modest home for their children. Tragically, their home was later demolished and the land taken away. With limited education and no steady employment, both Zemenay and her husband now struggle to provide for their family — yet she remains determined to create a better future for her children.
Monthly sponsorship will provide Zemenay’s family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our youth, daycare, education, and community programs.
