The Elders' Leprosy Home

Although there has been a significant decline in leprosy around the world due to multiple drug therapies, there are still communities where many individuals remain affected by the physical and emotional effects of this debilitating disease. Korah, Ethiopia is one of those places.

Prior to sponsorship, these elderly men were living in inhumane conditions; crammed into corners of make-shift shacks with little but dirt to sleep on. Their debilitating disease has left many of them crippled & vulnerable, unable to feed or care for themselves. The stigma associated with this disease has further ostracising effects, isolating them from the support of their families & communities, often pushing them even further into isolation.

In response to this injustice HFK opened The Elders’ Home in April 2012. The program has grown to include eight gentlemen, endearingly referred to as the ‘Elders’ and who are now living together in a supportive community. The Elders’ Home provides these men with a place to call home; one in which they can take pride in.
