World Toilet Day

As is common in most unplanned urban slum communities, basic sanitation services and access to clean water are significant issues in Korah.

Unsanitary conditions and water pollution lead to poor health conditions and create a threat of disease outbreaks in these vulnerable communities. In Korah, most of our families don’t have toilets in their homes or even nearby. In fact, there are only a handful of pit toilets at different locations in Korah.

In all our projects, such as the Berta Youth Compound, we have been intentional about building toilets and washing stations for our families, participants, and staff to access. And, as you may know, we are also working on a huge well project at the Abune Basilios School to bring fresh water to the school and the nearby community. Up until two years ago, when HFK began trucking in 100,000 litres of water per week, Basilios' 5,000 students had not been able to flush toilets or wash hand for several years! Can you imagine? We are all very excited for this water well to be completed!

To follow along for updates on the water project - drilling is only days away from starting! Read Water Well Updates.
