A Young Girl's Desperate Plea

The situation in Korah is becoming increasingly desperate. As more families lose their homes, many are reaching out to Hope for Korah for help.

We are receiving requests for help, including this heartfelt plea from a 14-year-old girl desperately asking for assistance for her family.

Her words offer a powerful firsthand glimpse into the fear and uncertainty so many families are experiencing right now.

"My name is Debora, and I am in 7th grade. I am 14 years old, and on my 6th grade national exam I scored 82.5%. In 2027, I will be taking the 8th-grade national exam. I am God’s child and I am a Christian. I have two twin sisters in KG 3 (kindergarten). I have anemia. My mother's name is Asnakech, and she has epilepsy.

My mother scavenges at the garbage dump, but currently the dump is closed, and one police officer injured her. But she had to work for my sisters’ graduation fees, so she right away started going to the Michael church area to wash clothes for people. Our family is struggling very much, and we need your help. My mother and I go out every evening to beg for leftovers; if they say they don’t have any, we are left with empty stomachs.

Every day we collect plastic bottles, and although that makes me feel lower than my peers, I continue to help my mother. Right now, our family is struggling, and our father has passed, and there is no one to support us, but through it all, we thank God.

We don’t have food to eat or a change of clothes; we don’t even have shoes. Please stand by our side and help us.

I really love playing soccer; I am a good player. I have been training with the girls at Hope for Korah. I attend, not because my life is full, but because we lack so much and it gives me hope. If you support us, we could stop picking plastic bottles and asking for leftovers, and instead, focus on my school, study and score good marks on the 8th-grade national exam.

Thank you for reading my letter. We have nothing to eat; we would be happy if we were at least able to eat breakfast at Berta. I would truly thank you if you could save us from having empty stomachs. I am hopeful that you will understand our problems, and I thank you very much, and may God bless you."

If you would like to help families like Deborah's who have lost their home, we would be deeply grateful for your support.

Hope for Korah has launched an Emergency Relief Fund with a goal of raising $6,000–$10,000 to provide immediate assistance to families affected by this crisis. These funds will help temporarily support at least 20 families with three months of food and rent assistance as they work to rebuild their lives. We also hope to welcome 50 additional children and adults into our Berta Breakfast Program, ensuring they receive a nutritious breakfast each morning during this challenging season.

Together, we can bring hope, meet urgent needs, and help families take the first steps toward rebuilding their lives.
