International Literacy Day

Today is International Literacy Day and we are highlighting Bethlehem, one of the incredible women in our Empowerment Program at HFK.

Bethlehem is a dedicated single mother who has worked hard to pursue her education. Through our literacy training program, she was able to improve her reading and writing and then continued her studies through distance education—completing Grade 7, then Grade 8, and even taking the national exam this year!

Her daughter proudly supports her by helping with school assignments, and together they are building a brighter future.

Now, Bethlehem confidently manages bookkeeping for her business, takes care of her own banking and documents, and carries herself with renewed self-confidence. With HFK’s support, she has even opened a small shop—bringing her dream to life.

At HFK, literacy and education are one of the foundational pillars of our Empowerment Program.

We support families through literacy in three impactful ways:

1: Adult Literacy Classes (Level 1 & 2): Women with no prior education receive foundational reading and writing skills through HFK.

2: Evening School: HFK sponsors women to join evening classes starting from Grade 3.

3: Distance Education: Women above Grade 7 are encouraged and supported to pursue their studies further.

This International Literacy Day, we celebrate the way God is writing new stories of hope and transformation in Korah.
