Azeb's Family

Every morning, Azeb takes her children with her to the streets, seeking enough money to buy food for them to survive.

Azeb grew up under her grandmother’s care and, by Grade 8, was already working multiple jobs to support her, stepping into the role of the family’s main provider. For a time, she tried to continue her education by attending night school. Later, she moved to the city to find work, where she got married and had a daughter.

When her twins were born, her husband began exhibiting unusual behavior before ultimately leaving her. She has not heard from him since. Now on her own, Azeb is the sole caregiver for her three children. Raising infant twins without a support system has made it impossible for her to secure employment. To provide for her children, she began selling all of her household belongings. When everything was gone, she had no choice but to beg to feed her family.

Monthly sponsorship will provide Azeb’s family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our youth, daycare, education, and community programs.
