Elsa is an energetic and optimistic mother who strives her best to provide for her children.
She grew up in Addis Ababa with her two brothers. She and her brothers lost both their parents at a young age. Elsa missed the opportunity to complete high school as she first cared for her sick mother, then for her younger brothers after their mother died. After being left by two unsupportive husbands, Elsa is raising her children on her own. Together they live in a small metal house, with plastic material covering the walls inside. Elsa often skips meals to ensure her two boys are fed first. She is a hard-working, motivated mother with several skills she is eager to build on in the Economic Empowerment Program. One of her dreams is to open a hair salon, blessing others with beautiful hair styles which she learned from her mother.
Monthly sponsorship will provide Elsa's family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our youth, education, and community programs.
