Netsanet's Family

A young mother facing life’s challenges alone, Netsanet is determined to create a better future for her children.

When Netsanet was just 12 years old, she began working as a domestic worker to help cover her mother's medical expenses. After marrying at 15 and becoming a mother at 17, she continued working hard to provide for her family. Following her mother's passing, Netsanet found herself raising her son alone while supporting her family through domestic work and other temporary jobs.

Today, Netsanet is caring for her two young children on her own after her second relationship also came to an end. Although she is willing and eager to work, caring for her two-year-old daughter has made it difficult to find regular employment. She earns what she can through domestic work and collecting plastic bottles, but the income is not enough to consistently meet her family's needs. Despite the many challenges she has faced, Netsanet remains determined to build a more stable future for her children.

Monthly sponsorship will provide Netsanet’s family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our youth, daycare, education, and community programs.
