Ayelu's Family

After a difficult start to motherhood, Ayelu is working hard to provide for her young son on her own.

Following the birth of her son, Ayelu experienced serious medical complications that left her critically ill and hospitalized for four months. During this difficult time, her newborn was cared for by a close friend while Ayelu fought to recover. After returning home, the strain of her illness and the mounting medical expenses caused her relationship with her husband to break down, and they eventually separated.

Today, Ayelu is raising her one-year-old son, Amanuel, on her own with no family or strong support network nearby. She earns what she can by washing clothes in other people's homes, but the work is irregular and often isn't enough to meet their daily needs. Despite the many challenges she has faced, Ayelu is determined to build a stable future for herself and her son.

Monthly sponsorship will provide Ayelu’s family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our youth, daycare, education, and community programs.
