Keneni's Family

Abandoned by her husband, Keneni is fighting to survive and provide for her 2-year-old twins.

Keneni attended school until grade 10 before moving to Addis Ababa in search of work, where she became a housemaid. She continued working after getting married, but had to stop when she gave birth to twins.  With no one else to care for them, Keneni was forced to leave her job and stay home, making her husband the family's sole provider. Overwhelmed by the responsibility, he disappeared without warning — leaving Keneni alone, without income, in a small wooden and mud home with no running water and rent that still needed to be paid.

Now, Keneni relies on the kindness of neighbors for food or visits local churches seeking help. Eager to work, she feels trapped without a support system, unable to leave her children. She feels hopeless, isolated, and uncertain of where to turn next.

Monthly sponsorship will provide Keneni’s family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our youth, daycare, education, and community programs.
