As one journeys through life, there are certain people you meet who find a special place in your heart and will forever keep a piece of it.
Aleyhu Ayele was one of those people. It is with deep sadness that we share his passing.
Alehyu will be remembered for his courage, his quiet yet determined spirit, his sweet smile, and his perseverance in the face of overwhelming circumstances throughout his life. He was brave and strong, and he met each challenge with resilience and dignity. We are deeply proud of him and loved him dearly.
He came into our lives as a young boy with no parents, following a tragic accident at the garbage dump that resulted in the loss of his leg. I will never forget meeting him—a young boy with his head bandaged, his eyes stitched, fighting significant health issues, and navigating the rugged, uneven roads of Korah on crutches with only one leg. Even then, there was something remarkable about his strength.
He soon became part of our Boys’ Home, where we had the privilege of loving him, guiding him, and walking alongside him well into adulthood. We rejoiced greatly as he pushed himself, persevered, and mastered learning to walk again with his new prosthetic leg. We watched him remain determined in his studies, ranking first in his class and being recognized as an outstanding student by his school. Over time, he blossomed into an incredible young man who worked hard to become independent and self-sufficient.
Before graduating from our program, Aleyhu, with the help of a grant and hard work, had personally saved enough to purchase a bajaj (small three-wheeled taxi), and with his earnings later invested in a second. It was both inspiring and deeply joyful to witness his progress and determination. We were so proud of him and dreamed alongside him about what his future would hold.
His sudden and unexpected passing at such a young age is heartbreaking for all of us at Hope for Korah.
Aleyhu, you are family and you are deeply missed. Your memory and place in our hearts will remain with us always. We love you.
