Yayesh's Family

From a young age, Yayesh carried burdens beyond her years and faced many hardships.

Yayesh never had the opportunity to attend school and began helping with household responsibilities as a child. After leaving an arranged marriage, she came to Addis Ababa in search of work and spent many years as a domestic worker while supporting herself and her children.

Today, Yayesh is raising her children while managing the challenges of limited income and her husband’s health condition, which affects his ability to find regular work. She currently earns a small income cleaning homes, but it is not enough to consistently cover the family’s rent, food, and other basic needs. Her children’s school feeding program has been a valuable support, helping ease some of the pressure on the family.

Monthly sponsorship will provide Yayesh’s family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our youth, daycare, education, and community programs.
