The Rushby's are raising funds to sponsor 10 children living near the city trash dump in Korah, Ethiopia, to attend private school for their elementary education.

From Guatemala to Ethiopia: A Journey in Giving

"In 2007, my dad and I travelled to Antigua, Guatemala and had the privilege of building houses for two families. What an incredible experience. What was even more impactful was visiting the local schools, meeting the sweetest children and getting to participate in games with them. We brought school supplies, clothing and snacks for the children and their families were so grateful. Although these children had nothing, they were so happy!" - Kelly Rushby Brunt

In 2022, our family, the Rushbys began partnering with Hope for Korah, a registered charity working in Ethiopia to empower and equip children and youth in their academic journey. We are sponsoring 10 elementary students to complete their education at a school located near the trash dump in the capital. Hope for Korah provides a breakfast program for these students, ensuring they start their day with a nutritious meal. We plan to visit Ethiopia in the coming years to meet our sponsored children and see firsthand the programs that Hope for Korah runs to support these students in their studies.

Our Vision: Empowering Children through Education 

Due to extreme poverty and harsh life circumstances, children’s education in Korah is often quite fragmented. It is common for children to take months or even years off from school due to economic hardship or to look after ill family members. These long interruptions affect both the continuity and quality of their education. In addition, poor nutrition frequently interferes with children’s performance at school as it further impedes their ability to concentrate and think.

The Rushby Vision Team’s desire is to come alongside and sponsor 10 needy children through the work of Hope for Korah, providing them with educational opportunities at a private school that offers a higher standard of education. This includes smaller class sizes, quality teaching, and greater support from teachers. In addition to this, the children will have access to Hope for Korah's enriched educational programs & clubs, counselling, health services, a nutritious breakfast before school, computers, a library, and strong after-school tutoring. These resources will help strengthen their education, and fill in gaps which can interfere with their academic success.
