Selam F's Family

Selam is concerned her marriage will not last due to the financial struggles she and her husband are facing.

Selam was raised by her parents in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, and by the time she was a teenager had a desire to leave the country to find work, due to her family’s poor living conditions. A relative gave her some money, helped her acquire false identification, and off she went to work in Arab countries for several years. Upon her return to Addis, she fell victim to a scam and all her savings were stolen by people posing as a government aid program. Selam then connected with a man she fell in love with over social media while she was abroad. They got married and started a family, however with Selam at home caring for their son, it has been difficult for her husband to provide enough income to cover their living expenses. This has created ongoing tension between Selam and her husband which impacts their relationship. Selam desires to be engaged in generating income to support her family and keep her marriage intact.

Monthly sponsorship will provide Selam’s family with holistic support such as food, housing, medical care, spiritual care, counselling, education, health and life skills training, income generation and business development opportunities. Being part of HFK’s Family Empowerment Program will also give this family an opportunity to participate in many of our daycare, education, and community programs.
